thank you Derek for your contribution!
I agree ! .. as a matter of fact, Life Beyond Tourism views heritage as cultural and natural, tangible and intangible.

With a concious management of sustainable tourism (but not only), we can all contribute to the preservation of our cultural and natural heritage, and to increase people awareness on the subject... did you read our Manifesto? you can find it on the main website www.lifebeyondtourism.com or on this blog.

Don't forget the natural locations, like caves. For example popular tourist cave's stalactites and stalagmite structures take hundreds of thousands of years to form. Then each time a tourist touches the formation the oils in their skin slowly remove what took hundreds of thousands of years to create.

I'm so glad that you're bringing Context Travel to more people's attention with this blog post. They really do have a good philosophy, and importantly for their customers they also have great docents and seminars!

So many of us try with small, individual actions to alter the face of mass tourism (I try too with my website), and yet I go downtown in Florence and see seas of tourists following disney guides and sometimes I feel like my efforts are wasted. How do we combat the Walmart of tourism when the type of service or information we offer appeals to the single, informed traveler?

Perhaps of interest to the participants of this workshop would be a visit to Prato's Museo del Tessuto to see the show currently on display, "Lo stile dello zar" (www.lostiledellozar.it) about the interaction between italian and russian culture in the exchange of textiles and fashion from the 15th to 18th centuries. I went to see the show this past weekend and found it very well displayed. I believe that group tours are possible upon reservation too.

Hi! I appreciate the work that is beying done by LBT. My wife and I is managing Ayni Peru Tours and we sincerely believe in an alternative tourism that respect the environment, the livelihood of the locals and is supportive to projects that help to eradicate poverty. In a way make tourism a social enterprise! As your organisation, We also work with academic guides. We shall much appreciate to know how we can team up and ensure that we leave something sustainable for the future generation.
