The goal of the Symposium is to introduce international scholars and professionals working in the field of Georgian and Caucasian art and culture to each other. On an Italian setting, they will have the opportunity to:

“familiarize international audiences with the broad spectrum of scholarly work that exists in the ever-expanding field of Georgian and Caucasian cultural studies”.

The aim of the project is to establish a network of scientists, and provide them with an unprecedented forum for scientific cultural exchange.

today, we would like to inform you about another event organized in the context of Life Beyond Tourism! It is the
yearly workshop ‘Touches of Reinassance‘ …coming up soon, and promoted by the Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation!

Students of architecture from different European countries will meet and work together,  studying Renaissance architecture in its authentic place: Florence, Italy. Students will thus have an on-hand experience with the studied architecture … and will literally “touch” it! Find out more at this link!

“The blog focuses on documentation related to the conservation of cultural heritage, historic monuments and sites, and the World Heritage Convention. It offers latest news on the ICOMOS Documentation Centre activities and bibliographies, and  it  offers information about publications, proceedings of conferences, journals, etc  … “

with you, Life Beyond Tourism will  collect  international initiatives addressed to sustainable, and cultural toursim! Here is a first one …

… we have recently discovered a great initiative whose principles are very tight to the Life Beyond Tourism’s Manifesto!

It is Context Travel, an organization that  promotes sustainable tourism by organizing thematic tours  where tours guides are academic experts on the related tour’s theme:

“ In this age of Disneyland and Club Med, Context Travel is dedicated to the experience of real places. We are committed to the character of these places: their built environment, cultural heritage, and living fabric. Through didactic walking seminars, we aim to bring together the traveler and these cities in a manner beneficial to both.

One of the dilemmas of traveling is the overwhelming amount of information, data, and experiences that we encounter during a short visit. Our walking seminars, which are limited to six participants, provide an intimate alternative to traditional tours. We emphasize in-depth conversation, much like a seminar class in a small, liberal arts college. “

You can find Context Travel in several cities such as Paris, Istanbul, New York, Florence, …

” … for example, in Florence, clients have the opportunity to visit a private artist’s studio where they will both learn about the history and technique of fresco painting [...]“

All of the visited experiences form the context of the journey. Contextuality, is a mission:

“Our mission becomes especially important in Florence, where mass tourism has a corrosive effect on monuments, museums, and the city landscape. A portion of our profits, coupled with donations from our clients, is directed toward cultural preservation initiatives in each of the cities where we operate, which safegaurds specific aspects of local culture. In Florence, we have created an opportunity for a local student to spend time as an apprentice in one of the historic workshops of the Oltrarno. This scholarship allows the student to gain the technical knowledge necessary for continuing the traditions of craftsmanship within the Oltrarno community.”

Anche  quest’anno, non perdere il Maggio Fiorentino!
“Encounter with Stradivari in front of David by Michelangelo”

Gli Stradivari della Nippon Music Foundation, una delle collezioni di strumenti ad arco più importanti al mondo, offrono al Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino un concerto di Fund Raising per contribuire al reperimento di risorse finanziarie. L’eccezionale evento, unica data in Italia, susciterà l’interesse non soltanto degli appassionati di musica, ma anche dei grandi cultori del suono stradivariano, uno dei più puri e inconfondibili, che, insieme all’eccezionale qualità della costruzione attraverso la forma e la vernice, rende veramente unica questa collezione di capolavori. Per l’occasione si aggiunge dalla Royal Academy di Londra una delle pochissime viole Stradivari al mondo, l’Archinto: il valore degli strumenti che si ascolteranno di fronte al David di Michelangelo, altro grande capolavoro del genio umano, supererà così i quaranta milioni di dollari. Gli incassi del concerto concorreranno al budget che il Teatro impiega per sviluppare l’attività riservata alla scuole e ai giovani, attraverso spettacoli propedeutici alla produzione, alle prove generali e all’illustrazione della storia dell’istituzione e del suo festival, il più antico d’Europa insieme a Bayreuth e Salisburgo.

Sabato 19 ha inaugurato la mostra ‘La città degli Uffizi: L’Oratorio di Santa Caterina all’Antella e i suoi pittori’ che si terrà dal 19 Settembre al 31 Dicembre presso l’Oratorio di Santa Caterina d’Alessandria nel Piviere dell’Antella, Bagno a Ripoli. Un’occasione per trascorrere un giornata nel suggestivo paesaggio delle colline del Chianti a pochi chilometri dal centro di Firenze!
