LIFE BEYOND TOURISM BLOG

Discussion on Manifesto’s point 2

2) Tourism provides an opportunity for getting to know
. spirit of place
. cultural diversity
. traditional knowledge

Life Beyond Tourism offers a new vision of tourism – including mass tourism – designed to highlight its strategic nature rather than its consumer-driven aspect, in order:
· to promote intercultural dialogue
· to foster awareness of and familiarity with
cultural diversity
traditional knowledge
· to safeguard spirit of place
· to communicate spirit of place, imbuing it with new life

Yes, this is true!! I mean, what are you mainly looking for while traveling? Standard souvenirs or rather getting to know local people and local culture as deep as possible?

Tell us your best experience and give ideas  to other bloggers about how to have a true cultural experience!

  2. You may read guide-books about countries and cities, learn foreign languages and watch films produced by foreign companies, have holidays on the seashore abroad and comming back tick this place off on your own map of places you’ve visited at your age of …, and put one more extremely Romish, Londonish, Moscowish, Tokyoish thing on a shelf in a line of “the most national” souvenirs from all over the world. What can be more stereotypical and banal? Does it really mean that you’ve been to this or that place? Geographically yes. Spiritually no! This nominal presence doesn’t mean that you’ve visited the Place. To visit means to experience, to feel and try to understand the oter culture (not a 100% but to see that it’s different and similar to yours at the same time). What can be more interesting than exploring Culture? What is more eternally valuable than Culture? What can be more enriching than Culture? What makes us so different and what unites us if not the Culture?
The idea of travelling and learning, let me call it enlightening travel, gives the opportunity to self-development for developing the World, as many generations of poets, writers, painters, musicians explored and envestigated the fruits of the centuries-long development of the Culture and cultures for creating their masterpieces for the Future generations.
